For the closing weekend of UNSW Galleries' spring exhibitions season, exhibiting artists David Eastwood, James Nguyen, Georgia Saxelby, and Rochelle Haley engage in a series of artist talks, and Angela Goh activates the work of Rochelle Haley in a performance.
—
David Eastwood an artist and academic whose practice is primarily situated in drawing and painting. He uses the interior as a genre through which to construct composite images that reconfigure spatio-temporalities, reevaluating relationships across historical periods and locations.
James Nguyen works with documentary, installation and performance. He often collaborates with members of his family to examine the politics of art, self-representation and decolonising strategies in diasporic practice. Nguyen has also collaborated with Salote Tawale in the group BAD.
Georgia Saxelby is a US-based, Sydney-born installation and social practice artist whose work invites collective actions and antagonises structures of architecture, power and history. Through sculpture, video, performance, and audience participation, her practice engages with archive-building, ritual-making, and inventing personal architectures to investigate new ways of representing oneself in public and institutional space.
Rochelle Haley is an artist and researcher engaged with painting, drawing, movement and performance to explore relationships between bodies and physical environments. For over ten years Haley has worked at the forefront of the intersection of visual arts and dance: an emergent area of expanded painting research gaining international momentum.
Angela Goh is a dancer and choreographer. She lives and works in Sydney, and her work has toured across Australia and internationally to Europe, the UK, the USA and Asia. Her work poses possibilities for disruption and transformation inside the aesthetics and conditions of technocapitalism, planetarity, and the post-anthropocene.
