In the first session of each academic year, Sessional staff are invited to attend a series of
workshops - focussed on learning and teaching, support and problem areas. Learning & Teaching @
UNSW and Dr Steve Clark, COFA’s Learning & Teaching Fellow, coordinate the workshops.
They are specifically designed to help Sessional staff, whether new or long experienced, in
some of the key challenges of part-time university teaching. The workshops address the unique
qualities and challenges of Sessional teaching and aim to increase your capabilities, strategies
and confidence in your teaching.
Sessional Staff teaching in 2009 who either have not taught in a University before or have
not taught for the last 2 years are required to attend the Sessional Staff Workshop
series. To register for the workshops, please contact Yuri Hospodar
at adaassistant@cofa.unsw.edu.au or +61 2 9385 0773.
There will be workshops especially designed for Sessional Staff, but there will also be a
number of workshops, presentations, get togethers and lectures for academic staff in general, both
full-time and Sessional. These will be known as the COFA Academic Community. Please see both links
below for further information.
Sessional Staff who are teaching in Session 1 and who attend Sessional Staff Workshops are
eligible for payment of $35.77/hr. Staff who attend all 3 workshops will also receive a Certificate
of Attendance, which will certify their completion of the course of lectures on learning and
teaching.
To receive copies of the notes given out at these workshops or to find out more about the
workshops, contact the Office of the Associate Dean (Academic) on +61 2 9385 0773 or email
