Workshops
Associate Dean (Academic) Graham Forsyth presenting
In the first session of each academic year, specially designed workshops - focussed on learning
and teaching, support and problem areas - are held througout the session for sessional
staff.
The workshops are co-ordinated by the UNSW Learning and Teaching Unit at COFA and implemented by
COFA's Associate Dean (Academic) Graham Forsyth.
Workshop topics include:
- general introduction to learning and teaching principles and practices
- identifying the qualities of fulfilling learning experiences in Fine Arts and Design
- establishing supportive and inclusive classroom environments
- actively engaging students in thought and discussion
- strategies for managing challenging classroom situations
- planning your classes
- identifying strategies which maximise learning from assessment
- review and design criteria for an assessment task
- consider the qualities of feedback which support student learning
- recognise and experience the effect of verbal feedback in the learning process, particulary in
relation to presentations
- experience and evaluate the process of peer review in learning
- writing and using course outline
