Sylvia Ross's currently teaching in the areas of sculpture and installation. Her areas of expertise
are ancient and contemporary earthworks, sculpture/ installation, body works, non-ferrous metal
technology, and text-based works.
Sylvia's work is often text-based, referencing the silence brought about by social and
political oppression. As a strong supporter of reconciliation and human rights, her main interests
are in the areas of indigenous 'visibility', collective social responsibility and issues within
notions of nationalism and the cultural hierarchy that it generates. Sylvia's recent work
satirically references collisions of culture in a globalised consumer society.
In 2005 Sylvia was involved in a number of international activities, some of these include:
Documenting Christo's
Gates project in New York.
Teaching art and english in the Chaing Rai provence, Thailand.
