Introductory Profile:
Dr Best is currently completing a book titled Affect and Expression in Late Modern Art: Eva Hesse, Lygia Clark, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha and Ana Mendieta. The project examines the neglected role of feeling in the interpretation of art. In particular, it focuses on women artists of the 1960s and 70s, arguing that their work challenges us to rethink the characterisation of the art of this period as anti-aesthetic, anti-expressive and anti-subjective. The project was funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery grant.
