Introductory Profile:

Michael Kempson’s extensive background in drawing and print related practice informs his individual studio based research, exploring the concept of ‘Beauty and Banality’ through the medium of printmaking. He focuses on the graphic potential of urban and suburban metaphors using the paradigm of personal narrative. As the Director of the custom printmaking Cicada Press, at COFA, Michael encourages practising artists in a variety of conceptual approaches to the medium of printmaking. He provides expertise and a supportive environment at Cicada to some of Australia finest contemporary artists including Adam Cullen, Nicholas Harding, Elisabeth Cummings, Reg Mombassa, Cherry Hood, Alun Leach-Jones, Euan Macleod, John Coburn, Michael Johnson, John Peart, Suzanne Archer and James Gleeson. This facilitates an exciting creative cross flow of knowledge and experience between artists and COFA undergraduate and postgraduate printmaking students.
