Introductory Profile:
Martin Sims has an extensive background in sculpture and installation practices, more recently incorporating video and sound. His five-year audio project Thin Air (premiered in Cork, 2005) brings together real-time sounds of iconic silent spaces in global locations such as the Rothko Chapel, Auschwitz/Birkenau concentration camp and the Whispering Gallery in Saint Paul’s Cathedral. Other current work uses real-time footage of urban and rural topologies to explore the notion of ground as a site of manifold kinds of inscription and erasure.
