Liz Williamson is a Visual Arts Board member of the Australia Council. In 2006 Liz’s ongoing practice and research in textile design will contribute to two solo exhibitions exploring the invisibility/visibility in darning, A Visible Thread at the Ivan Dougherty Gallery and Visible Darning at Object Galleries in Sydney. In 2005 Liz conducted research at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge University to examine the significance of motifs, embellishment and damask and complex weaving patterns used in household domestic linens of the 18th and 19th centuries. Since 2001 Liz has collaborated with Unesco and various weaving groups in Asia on development projects involving textile production training for income generation purposes. This involvement has resulted in a range of wraps and scarves designed by Liz being woven in India and Pakistan.
