Current Research Activity

Kim Snepvangers’s current research reports on a rich cultural narrative of what it is like to conduct assessment in art and design. Her research uses qualitative methodologies, interviews and case studies to reveal some of the psycho-social dimensions of assessment. Kim's emergent theory anticipates assessment as spectacle, using a poststructural theoretical framework and the work of Guy Debord (1983). The research explores the orthodoxy and rhetoric of traditional assessment to reveal other agendas in the practice of artistic assessment. By exposing gaps in authenticity, between appearance and reality some of the motives behind the public face of assessment are revealed.
