Joanna Mendelssohn is currently working on threeprojects.
1. Dictionary of Australian Artists On Line (DAAO) in partnership with UNSW Library, Faculty
of the Built Environment, University of Sydney, Monash University, University of Adelaide,
Art Gallery of New South Wales, State Library of New South Wales, National Gallery of Australia,
National Library of Australia, Art Gallery of South Australia, Queensland Art Gallery.
The DAAO is a national collaborative project, creating a 'great machine', a tool for
the generation and delivery of high quality research on Australian artists. Building on Joan Kerr’s
unique editorial vision and Vivien Johnson's scholarship in the field of Indigenous art the DAAO
offers researchers a resource unmatched in scope and contemporaneity. Linked to multimedia
databases and information management resources of its major participating institutions the
multimodal specification of the DAAO is efficiently adapted to representation of content in the
field. Designed as an open access readily navigated on-line service the DAAO will provide
Australian and international browsers with a rich portrayal of Australia’s visual heritage. The
DAAO is also a way to both publish and to create a discourse on aspects of the lives and
circumstance of Australian artists.
2. Richard and Pat Larter, mail art cultures, family and circumstance
3. Art and the 'Age of Terror': George Gittoes, Leon Golub and Max Beckmann
