Dr Diane Losche received her PhD from Columbia University, New York. Her PhD research and many publications analyse the art and culture of the Abelam area of Papua New Guinea. She also writes extensively on issues of contemporary art and cultural difference. In addition her most recent research area is the history of museums especially in relation to the Asia-Pacific area, a research interest for which she received an ARC Discovery Grant in 2002. She is currently writing a book on the American Museum of Natural History, Margaret Mead and the Pacific and has written many articles.
