The Museum of Contemporary Art in association with COFA and d/Lux/Media/Arts, with assistance from
the Australian Research Council presents a two day conference entitled Disappearing Video. Australian Video Art: Some Key Works, is an evening
screening of key Australian video works followed by a full day of talks and personal accounts
exploring what might be learnt from video art practices, and approaches to collecting and archiving
the medium for the future.
Accompanying the conference is the exhibition Video Logic, 19 August to 2 November 2008, featuring new and recent work by six artists who have been involved
with video and screen-based artwork for a decade or more. Conference speakers include
Stephen Jones, Danni Zuvela, John Conomos, Louise Curham, Lyndal Jones and Andrew Frost with
facilitators John Gillies and Ross Harley.
COFA staff John Gillies and Associate Professor and New Media Head of School Ross Harley, in
collaboration with the MCA and d/Lux/Media/Arts, present this conference as part of their project Video Art Online: from UBU Films to the Present. The
project is aimed at creating an innovative way to store, catalogue, interpret and archive video art
works using open source software that will be freely available to others to use and develop.
