COFA Associate Professor Emma Robertson has been included in the finalists for the 2008 Jacaranda
Acquisitive Drawing Award with her mixed media work monochrome drawing titled Imaginary Lands. The JADA is Australia's richest regional
drawing award, being awarded biannually with the major award this year amounting to $15, 000.
This year the work of 45 artists were selected from 381 entries. Hendrik Kolenberg, Senior
Curator of Australian Prints, Drawings and Watercolours at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, is
the 2008 judge.
One of the outstanding features of the JADA is that the entries selected for award are
scheduled to tour eight regional and metropolitan galleries along the east coast throughout the
2009-2010 period.
In 2008 the award celebrates 20 years of promoting innovation and excellence in Australian
contemporary drawing and has increased the overall award amount to $30 000 to coincide with this
important anniversary. Acquisitions from the Jacaranda Drawing Award enter the Grafton Regional
Gallery’s collection of Australian contemporary drawing.
