The Kingpins are an all girl art collective who create live performance and gallery based projects
and who include COFA graduate and lecturer Emma Price, Kate Price, Techa` Noble and Angelica
Mesiti. They are to launch their window project on Wednesday 3 September at the Incu fashion store.
The Incu/ Kingpins window project is to coincide with the launch of their new fashion label Birthday Suit. Birthday Suit takes inspiration from costume and live
performance, with the collection embodying the radical, humorous and performative spirit of The
Kingpins. The pieces are created for women and are about women and explore the diverse spectrum of
costume and adornment that accompanies female physicality. Key garments include a Tasmanian tiger
sequined cape, a bird embellished headdress, cobweb crochet catsuit and a collaboration with artist
Fiona Lowry featuring an airbrushed Cassowary silk bomber jacket and Harem pants. The pieces will
be available for purchase. The Incu/ Kingpins Window Project is a collaboration between Beth Ditto
(The Gossip) and The Kingpins, born from a performance at The Demolition Party in The Royal Monceau, Paris. The
Incu/ Kingpins window project will be on display throughout September and October and will include
documentation of the Paris performance.
The Window Project is an initiative inviting local and international artists to create a
site-specific work for the Incu fashion store window space at Galleries Victoria. Upcoming projects
will include COFA graduate Del Kathryn Barton and UK artist Donna Wilson.
