Associate Professor Emma Robertson, from the School of Design Studies has been selected as the 2008
Artist in Residence at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney. The Residency was announced on Friday 22
February at a joint function at the Vaucluse home of the British Consul-General, by the Director of
the RBG, Dr Tim Entwistle. The residency research will culminate in a solo exhibition, titled
Ascendant and Descendant, at the Red Box Gallery in the Domain in early 2009. It will explore
images of endangered plant species and their seeds, and it aligns with a joint initiative between
the RBG and Kew Gardens, London as part of the Millennium Seedbank Project.
Two mixed media prints by Robertson were recently exhibited in the 2007 GRAFIX Biennial -
artists from 24 countries were represented in the selective show. Three of Robertson's original
drawings were also selected last year as part of the Best of the International Biennial of Drawing
touring exhibition. This image shows the three works on the left at the International Currents
Gallery of the John David Mooney Foundation, in Chicago, USA. They are presently on display at the
Gallery Sala Manzu in Bergamo, Italy until 9th March. The tour has also taken the works to the
Museum of Arts, Limoges, France and the Museen der Stadt, Regensberg, Germany and it will continue
to other countries in Europe during 2008.
