There are two components of the COFA Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Research Grants
Scheme.
Part A
A new initiative of the Associate Dean (Academic) will fund six $1000 grants to support staff
who wish to undertake research which has the potential to enhance understanding of teaching
practices that support student learning in their field of study. The research can focus on any
aspect of the development and/or delivery of course material to enhance the student learning
experience. The objective is to identify practices and approaches which will benefit courses or
programs in terms of content, structure and the student experience, and which have relevance to the
wider discipline. Ideally, the research should be grounded in pedagogical theory. There is an
expectation that the results of the research will be disseminated within the faculty and be of
publishable standard when completed.
There is no application form. Each application must be no more than 1000 words and must
clearly indicate the aims, method and outcomes of the proposed research. Each application must be
endorsed by a Head of School who will provide a short statement of no more than 150 words,
explaining why they are supporting the application. Applications from Heads of School need to be
endorsed by the Dean.
The deadline for 2008 SoTL Grant applications will be 28th March 2008.
This Grant Scheme is an initiative of the COFA Associate Dean (Academic) who will be
responsible for its administration.
Part B
Staff are also able to apply for support to present SoTL research in the form of papers and
other presentations at conferences and other events.
Grants are awarded to academic staff on a competitive basis. More information can be
found in the
Guidelines for Applicants.
