The Carrick Citations are one of the major national awards from the Carrick Institute. The Carrick
Institute is a Commonwealth funded body charged with promoting and advancing learning and teaching
in Australian Higher Education.
Each year up to 210 awards of $10,000 are made to individuals or teams whose efforts
contribute to the quality of student learning.
Awardees have made a significant contribution to the quality of student learning in a
specific area of responsibility over a sustained period, and can be academic staff, general staff,
or sessional staff.
The Citations are awarded annually and nominations are made during the first semester and the
winners are announced in June or July of the same year.
COFA has been particularly successful in this prestigious award; with Rick Bennett and Simon
McIntyre receiving a Citation in 2006 and Vaughan Rees and Patricia Taylor in 2007.
The process involves support from ‘go’ to ‘whoa’. The Associate Dean (Academic)’s office at
COFA can provide support in terms of thinking about whether you or your team could mount an
application, while Learning and Teaching at UNSW provide support and feedback for the writing of
the application. Only applications with the support of Learning and Teaching will be accepted by
Carrick.
