Loan Conditions

Equipment is provided for currently enrolled students and staff of the College of Fine Arts for course and research requirements. Borrowers must produce a current ID card and leave a "Borrowers Card" (available from the Student Centre) with the Resource Centre. (Transport concession cards, drivers' licenses are not accepted.)

Proficiency Test

  • Many equipment items are reserved for specific courses and require aproficiency test before borrowing is allowed.
  • Proficiency tests will generally be conducted as part of your classes. In the case of postgraduate students or special circumstances, you may arrange a proficiency test with the Photomedia support staff. (Phone 9385 0786 or come to the PhotoStore – CB15)

NOTE: Falsely claiming proficiency may result in loss of borrowing rights.

Length of Loans

  • Standard loan times are 24 hours or over a weekend.
  • Back to back bookings beyond the usual 24 hour or weekend periods are not allowed.
  • Longer times may be negotiated but require a signed Extended Loan Authorisation form from an appropriate academic staff member that the loan is for approved course or research work. Extended Loan Authorisation forms are available from the Photomedia Store.
NOTE: this form must be completed before any booking can be made.

Booking

  • When booking, items must be named as they appear in the equipment lists. Generic terms such as "camera" or "lights" are not acceptable. This enables us to give you the specific equipment you require and avoids confusion when booking.
  • Equipment bookings should be made in person, however we will accept phone bookings provided your student ID number is supplied. It is in your interest to confirm in person that the correct booking has been entered on the booking sheets.
  • Bookings can be made up to one week in advance.
  • The Photomedia Store must be notified of any cancellations as soon as possible.

Late Warnings & Loss of Borrowing Rights

  • Each time you are late returning loaned items or fail to cancel booked items, you will receive a warning. If you accumulate two warnings you will be suspended from borrowing for one month the next time you are late or fail to pick up booked equipment without notice of cancellation.
  • After returning from suspension you will be allowed only one warning. A second late return or failure to pick up will result in you being suspended from borrowing for one month. After returning from a second suspension any late return or non-pickup will result in a one month suspension of borrowing rights. There will be no warnings.
NOTE: warnings last for 12 months, carrying over into the next calendar year.

Care of Equipment & Borrowers Responsibilities

Borrowers are responsible for loaned equipment until it has been checked off their loan record.

All equipment must be treated according to the prescribed rules on proper use and handling and be returned in a clean and tidy condition. Any damage or malfunction must be reported to Resource Centre staff.

Damage resulting from incorrect usage or carelessness is solely the borrower's responsibility.

Failure to report damage is a serious breach of borrowing conditions and may result in loss of borrowing rights.

Malfunction, as the result of correct usage will be considered fair wear and tear.

Some items are loaned as Kits. It is your responsibility to check at the time of borrowing that the contents list is correct. Any missing item must be reported immediately to Phtotmedia Staff.

NOTE: Any items missing from the contents list at the time of return will be replaced at the borrower's expense.

In the case of lost, stolen, or damaged equipment, all instances will be reported to the Unit Supervisor and Faculty Manager. Borrower's rights will be suspended until appropriate action has been taken to rectify the situation.

Students who fail to return, on time, materials borrowed from College Resource units may be refused further borrowing privileges.

Students unable to return Photostore items borrowed from the College may be required to pay the cost of their replacement. The minimum charge per item will be determined by the College.
