School of Art History and Art Education
Senior Lecturer in Digital Media Theory, Anna Munster's latest publication: Materializing New Media – Embodiment in Information Aesthetics
The School of Art History and Art Education is made up of two departments: Art History and Theory
and Art Education.
Art History and Theory
Art History and Theory specialises in the study of modern and contemporary art,
and is one of Australia’s largest and most dynamic centres for research and teaching in art and
visual culture. The school fosters innovative approaches to the study of art and visual culture.
The outstanding research of the school is recognised by a high level of success in obtaining
competitive national grants.
Art and Design Education
The practice of teaching is fundamental to all societies. It is the glue that holds cultures
and peoples together. Teaching ensures that knowledge and skills are passed onto others and
recorded through generations.
Art and Design Education provides comprehensive and integrated programs to students wishing
to become art and design teachers. The programs ensure that students understand processes of
critical assessment and trends in art history and the fine arts, design, new media and art history
alongside courses in learning and teaching. The programs enable students to practice and
specialise in artistic and design oriented disciplines of their choice. Most importantly perhaps,
the programs prepare students to develop a professional approach to curriculum.
