The International Drawing Research institute is a consortium created to advance research into and
through the discipline of drawing.
The institute will inquire into and promote the seminal role of drawing within art, design
and architecture and - by extension - interdisciplinary visual discourse across any or all of the
disciplines of higher education. The Institute comprises its three founding members, (College of
Fine Arts) COFA, UNSW in Sydney, (China Central Academy of Fine Arts) CAFA in Beijing and (Glasgow
School of Art) GSA. Other institutions, agencies and individuals may participate on specific
projects, through the agency of one of the founding members.
The Institute is committed to research within a triangular structure - a 'trialogue' - a
collaborative strategy that seeks alternative modes of enquiry and discourse to the dualism of
East's and West's distinctions of contrasting cultures.
