Staff Research

It engages interdisciplinary collabroration wth other Faculties in UNSW, including landmark crossdisciplinary studies in conjunction with architecture, sociology and computer science and engineering.

Postgraduate Research at COFA

Research activities at the College of Fine Arts reflect the diversity of contribution defining the field of art and design and are directed to providing the field with the quality of investigation and high level of scholarship foundational to its support.

The community of researchers at College of Fine arts is renowned for its cooperative approach to the exchange, formulation and critical development of research and research supervision in the field, and for its interdisciplinary collaboration with other Faculties in UNSW.

Postgraduate research at the College of Fine Arts is supervised within the domains of visual arts and design practice, art history and theory, and art and design education. Students have the opportunity of focusing upon a wide variety of discipline areas including – digital media, sculpture, design, painting, graphics, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, drawing, film and video and interactive cinema, photomedia, sculpture, audio, installation, performance, jewellery, art history and theory, art and design education, art and design management, conservation, and art therapy.

Postgraduate studies can be undertaken through independent modes of research conventional to art and design, as well as through novel post-studio and post-romantic approaches, including collaboration on nationally funded projects and programs generated by academic staff.

COFA has an active ‘online Postgraduate Research Community’ [oPRC]. The oPRC aims to be an important aspect of the PG student experience at COFA, enabling doctoral and masters students to actively engage with a peer-community of researchers at all times during the course of their degree.
