COFA alumnus and multi media artist, Shaun Gladwell, was selected as the Australian representative at the 2009 Venice Biennale and now has been chosen by the Australian War Memorial as the official war artist in Afghanistan. In his role as official war artist he will spend a month in Afghanistan documenting Australians at war. Better know for his artworks in the fields of video and installation, Gladwell says he will include the mediums of sculpture, video and photography into the experience. Armed with a luggage bag filled with video equipment he plans to shoot as much footage as possible and then respond in his studio after the experience. Gladwell is following in the footsteps of another COFA Alumnus, Wnedy Sharpe, who was also chosen as the Peacekeeping (East Timor) Official War Artist.
