Project X3 is a University of New South Wales multi-disciplinary design workshop with the College
of Fine Arts, Built Environment and Faculty of Engineering, where students from a wide background
of courses within UNSW are able to apply their skills and experience to develop a sustainable
shelter in Fowlers Gap research centre. Project X³ was started in the second semester of 2008. It
has since progressed through several design and development stages and is now into its third and
final semester. The purpose of the project is to design, develop and construct a pre-fabricated
shelter to support artists for short to medium lengths of time in a remote area.
The student group is currently constructing a single bay of the building, approximately one
quarter of the total structure, in Kensington, Sydney. When complete this bay will form the
blueprint for the rest of the structure.
Project X³ is a continuation of the Project X multi-disciplinary model. The first Project X
was run in 2007, followed by Project X2 in the first half of 2008.
