Kudos Gallery recently held an exhibition by COFA third year Object Design students titled New Typologies- Take A Seat. The premise of the project
and resulting exhibition was for students to design and construct a chair based on a conceptual
understanding of a specific seating scenario, and to design with sustainability. Each student
took the re- definition of the chair for a new scenario very differently, with 35 unique chairs
being conceptualised, designed and constructed. Oliver Billington, who designed a chair based on
the concept of two useless separate objects that once are brought together form a functioning
chair, stated that the experience brought out the finest example of his craftsmanship skills.
Each chair in the exhibition was a unique and interesting design and structure,
worthy of any designer furniture retail store. The designs and concepts ranged from flat packed
chairs based on the seating habits of loners, misfits and left-wing anarchists to Adam and Eve to
sitting on Cloud Nine.
New Typologies- Take A Seat was on exhibition at Kudos
Gallery from July 23- 26, 2008.
