Free public lecture on Shibori
Yoshiko I Wada, a world known artist and author on Shibori is doing a residency at COFA from
22 March to 3 April and will be giving a public lecture on Tuesday 30 March at 6:30 pm.
This lecture will focus on the concept of the Japanese shape-resist technique known as
shibori. Since its introduction to the West in the 70s, shibori has become increasingly
popularized and is now commonly understood as an umbrella term for numerous methods of imprinting
memories on pliable surfaces with a force - such as fold-dye, clamp resist, pleating, even
weaving. Contemporary artists across the globe are exploring new universes in shibori,
combining unconventional means, innovative materials, and traditional techniques to discover
what lies beyond predictable fabric patterning and to approach new dimensions in design.
Time: Tuesday 30 March at 6:30pm
Location: COFA lecture hall, room EG02
