Free Public Art History Lecture Tuesday May 4, 6:30-8:00pm
Prof. Neville Dubow, Emeritus Professor of Art History, University of Cape Town
There is however every reason for a continued contemplation of
the past - not to monumentalise or bury it, but to remember and gain some insight from it. (N.
Dubow)
Neville Dubow has studied and written extensively over the course of his professional career
on art, architecture and photography, and their interrelations.
In a recent project, Dubow delivered a series of major public lectures and produced a book,
Imaging the Unimaginable, which explored the ability of art and architecture to fully represent the
gamut of human experience. The lecture series and book gave particular focus to representations of
the Holocaust.
Dubow was for many years Director of the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape
Town and was the founding director of the university's Irma Stern Museum. He has held visiting
professorships in England, the United States and Israel.
