An outstanding selection of artworks from the 2004 HSC Visual
Arts examination will be on show. School groups and all members of the public are warmly invited to
attend the exhibition. Bodies of work and selections of these will be showcased including
printmaking, animated cartoons, painting, video, design, sculpture, photo and digital media,
textiles and drawing. Floor talks, campus tours and video screenings are available for booked
school groups. A must see exhibition for future HSC Visual Arts students and their teachers.
Continuing a longstanding involvement with ARTEXPRESS this year the School of Art Education
made an innovative and unique contribution to the development of
ARTEXPRESS@COFA by inviting Karen Profilio, a
well-respected Head Teacher of Visual Arts from North Sydney Girls High School to join the
curatorial team in selecting the artworks for the COFA show. As well as Karen, the team also
included Beverley Fielder, Curator, Exhibition/Performances Spaces, COFA; Kerry
Thomas, Lecturer, School of Art Education, COFA and selected undergraduate
students from the BArtEd and BDesBArtEd programs.
COFA is the only venue for ARTEXPRESS that offers the opportunity for Visual Arts teachers
and their students and the general public to view the exhibition in a working art and design school
and university environment. The diverse audience at COFA has a keen interest in responding to
the nuances and expressive attributes of the imaginative artworks in the show that explore themes
of identity, internment, sexuality, mythology, popular culture, and landscape amongst
others.
We would like to thank all of the 2004 HSC students whose artworks give this show its
contemporary edge. Our thanks also to the undergraduate students who assisted in selecting the
artworks and other students who will lead the floor talks including Cigdem Aydemir, Hannah
Boyd, Hannah Chapman, Gaby Franks, Suzannah Kersey, Chris Jones, Nick Phillipson, Claire
Platt-Hepworth, Jacqui Pugh, Natalie Pullen, Glen Spencer, Finella Sturrock, Melinda
Robertson, Kayla Thomas and Marisa Van Eijk. As part of the experience of viewing
ARTEXPRESS@COFA these students will also offer campus tours
of the College of Fine Arts - visits to studio areas, the library and galleries.
We look forward to your seeing you at
