On the 4th of December 2005 Senior Lecturer and Academic Development & Manager of Online Courses in Art & Design, Rick Bennett was on hand to receive a major award at the Australasian Society of Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (Ascilite) Conference held in Brisbane.

The award recognised 'exemplary application of ICT to teaching and learning in tertiary education'

In a competitive final round of 15 international applications, the judges from a variety of countries deemed The Omnium Project ‘s Creative Waves project to be the most innovative ICT example overall that best fulfilled all of the awards assessment criteria.

Creative Waves is a free online project for students located anywhere in the world, studying or interested in graphic design, photomedia and visual communication.

Over a seven-week period in March and April 2005, the first phase of Creative Waves formed the world’s largest multi-cultural community of student designers ever to work together in a totally online context.

Bennet said of the award: “I am personally very pleased on behalf of my current Omnium team (Sam Bauers and Charles Santoso) and all those that have supported us over the past 6 years. This award will certainly further validate our future research ventures and also add credibility to our software range.”
