COFA once again is proud to host the very popular ARTEXPRESS exhibition the annual showcase
of artworks made by New South Wales Higher School Certificate students.
Each year ARTEXPRESS @ COFA is a testament to the strength and creativity of the teaching and
learning of visual culture in New South Wales.
This year ARTEXPRESS @ COFA presents a selection of exceptional works submitted by Visual Art
students who sat for the 2005 Higher School Certificate in a diverse range of media and forms and
includes a display of Visual Arts Process Diaries along with special floor talks led by COFA third
year Art Education students.
The diversity and conceptual strength of the bodies of works produced by HSC students in New
South Wales has special significance for the College of Fine Arts as our School of Art Education is
about to host its 12th Occasional Seminar in Art, Design & Education: ‘Critical Junctures -
ARTEXPRESS in the Public Domain.’
The Occasional seminar has been created to explore the role of ARTEXPRESS in relation to
contemporary artistic practice, and the field of art & design education in Australia. Teachers,
artists, critics and theorists including; Hossein Valamanesh (artist), Lesley Brown (the
coordinator of Artexpress), Anne Loxley, (curator and critic) Kathleen McPhillips (Senior Lecturer
in Social & Cultural Analysis, University of Western Sydney) and Marian Strong (the steering
committee of the National Review of Visual Education) will present their experiences and insights
