In this lecture, Walter Feinberg argues that modern day racism is tied conceptually to the values
of capitalism. Contemporary racism, he asserts, refracts differently for different people,
depending, among other things, on their own collective history. His research enables policy makers,
educators and the public to understand the sources of such conflicts in different educational
settings. Feinberg argues the importance of understanding these conflicts relationally and will
provide philosophical tools to address them in productive ways.
Walter Feinberg is the Charles Dunn Hardie Professor, Emeritus, Educational Policy and
Philosophy of Education at The University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, USA. He has edited several
journals and published numerous books.
