Curated by COFA graduates Kelly Doley and Diana Smith as part of the Firstdraft Emerging Curators
Program, Performing for the Camera brings together a diverse range
of artists that stage performances for the camera through video and performance works. The
exhibition is centred on the desire to perform or the failure to perform in a culture that has been
taken over by a type of performance hysteria.
The works included in the show perpetuate and critique the contemporary compulsion for one’s
existence to be expressed and inscribed through the camera lens. These works are embedded with a
heightened self-consciousness and the knowledge that someone is watching; or inevitably will be
watching.
Exhibiting artists include: Rachel Scott, Lauren Brincat, Brown Council, Kate Murphy, Anthea
Behm, Anastasia Zaravinos, Liam Benson, Kevin Platt, William Mansfield, Tetronomicon, Agatha
Gothe-Snape and Post.
When: Wednesday 16 July to Saturday 2 August 2008, 6 to 8
pm.
