Ink draws inspiration from traditional Japanese watercolours and from contemporary tattoo imagery, two sources that work together to create a vivid and energetic artwork that explores the concept of femininity. A popular Asian motif in tattooing, here the cherry blossom is a symbol of female sexuality and strength, as well as the ephemeral nature of life.

Kathryn Reid is a current student at COFA undertaking a Bachelor of Fine Arts/Arts majoring in Drawing and Painting, as well as Theatre and Performance. Reid is also pursuing her skills in tattooing and would eventually like to open her own space that practices tattooing and exhibits her artworks. She is currently showcasing some of her works at the Namaste Nurturing centres in both Brookvale and Avalon.

Kathryn Reid is one of the COFA representatives for the UNSW Artist Collective. See their upcoming show Twilight at PACT theatre, Erskinville, August 11 to August 15 2008. For more information email unswartistcollective@gmail.com.
