Gemma Messih, Sinkers, 2008, Plaster and thread.
Sinkers explores weight and time through the delicate
tactile nature of the cast bobbins, jewels and thread. The two objects that are cast together form
a dialogue as the thread connects both literally and metaphorically to convey the unraveling of
emotions.
Gemma Messih is a first year student studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in photomedia.
She is interested in photojournalism and hopes to pursue a career in it in the future. She has
previously exhibited in ArtExpress 2007 at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and is one
of the co-op Student Art winners of 2008.
