Kudos Gallery is run for COFA students by COFA students. It is an “artist run” space operated by
the Arc @ UNSW. Kudos is situated close to the UNSW COFA campus at 6 Napier Street
Paddington. Kudos Gallery is a valuable student service hosting approximately 30 exhibitions
annually.
Mission Statement
The Arc Kudos Gallery mission is to provide a venue for the pursuit of cultural practices
which reflects the ideas and concepts of contemporary art.
Aims
• To extend the range of art experiences available to students.
• To encourage emerging artists from the COFA student body to exhibit both innovative and
experimental work in a professional environment.
• To develop a gallery program which includes a wide range of disciplines from COFA and
encourage students to curate, exhibit, catalogue and critique exhibitions.
• To assist students on campus to display their artwork outside of College campus as well as
write catalogue essays, design promotional material and design exhibition concepts.
• To promote artists and their practices.
Objectives
• To facilitate the curation of exhibitions spanning across all Schools being: School of Art,
School of Design and Applied Arts, School of Art History/Theory, School of Art Education and School
of Media Arts.
• To foster awareness within the wider community of the cultural pursuits being explored at
COFA.
• To raise the professional profile of the student curators, writers, exhibitors and
designers through exposure of their work at an off-campus professional gallery.
Who can exhibit at Kudos?
• Kudos Gallery is interested in receiving applications from COFA students for solo and group
exhibitions from across all disciplines. Art Theory/Master of Art Administration students are
encouraged to submit proposals to curate exhibitions. Design students are also welcome to apply.
• Kudos is an exhibition space operated to benefit COFA students. Only COFA students are
eligible to apply for exhibitions, however, non-students may be involved in exhibitions at Kudos.
• To maintain a policy of equal opportunity. Exhibitions are programmed on a non-discriminatory
basis with regards to gender, race, age, sexuality and disability. The Gallery aims for a similar
policy of equal opportunity with the Kudos Gallery Management Committee.
• Annual exhibitions will be designated for:
– Emerging Artist and Designer Award
– Dislocation: International Students exhibition
– Dissonance: Women’s Collective exhibition
– Praxis COFA staff exhibition
– Alumni COFA Chapter Annual exhibition
• The month of April, as part of the lease arrangement, will be allocated to the annual Greek Festival of Sydney.
Kudos Management Structure
• The Kudos Gallery Management Committee will determine the exhibition program. This
Committee will be made up of representatives from the COFA student population, and the
Gallery Supervisor.
• The Kudos Gallery Coordinator is a part-time member of the Arc staff and supervises the
installation and tear down of each exhibition on Mondays, and supervises on opening nights.
Financial Information
• A bond of $200.00 is required to secure space at Kudos Gallery. This bond is payable upon
receipt of contract if exhibition proposal is accepted. The bond is refundable providing
exhibitor(s) fulfil all requirements of the gallery conditions. Refer to Bond Requirements in the
Kudos Gallery Contract for specific details.
• An exhibition fee will be charged for exhibitions to cover maintenance and production costs.
For Arc members, the fee is $145 (including GST) for one exhibitor, plus $20 for every exhibitor
after that with a cap of $345.
Non-Member rates are $235 for one exhibitor, plus $20 for every exhibitor after that with a cap
of $435.
Member or Non-member rates will be charged as per the majority of exhibitors.
• Kudos Gallery has a free exhibition program that is distributed widely. This program features
five Kudos exhibitions and the cost is included in the Exhibition Fee. We also offer a free
invitation design service based on a standard template; printing costs are the responsibility of
the exhibitor(s). Optional invites cost only $65 for 250 double-sided business card sized invites.
• The price of the works will be determined by the artist(s) and will include the 25% Gallery
commission and GST (if registered with an ABN).
• All exhibition and opening night expenses are the responsibility of the exhibitor(s)
including invitations, special equipment outside the gallery’s capabilities and opening night
refreshments.
• The GAS Scheme is not available for exhibitions at Kudos Gallery.
Application Requirements
• Please consider the presentation of your application carefully.
• Before submitting an application, please ensure that you have read and understood all the
information provided in this package. If any details are unclear please contact the Gallery
Coordinator or Arc Office @ COFA for clarification.
• Complete the Exhibition Application form (available from the Arc Office or Arc website) and
attach it at the front of your application.
– A range of preferred exhibition dates should be included. As it is your responsibility to provide gallery minders during all opening hours of the gallery, ensure your selected dates permit this.
• Enclose a Conceptual Rationale of one A4 page that thoroughly explains what you plan to do
within the gallery space. Including details of how you intend to display your work.
• Include an Artists’ statement of approximately 100 words for each artist.
• Attach visual support material: slides, drawings, photographs, diagrams, videos (which ever
form is more relevant to your application). These images must be the work you intend to exhibit.
Slides must have the size of work, date, and ‘which way up’. Exhibitions with 1-4 artists require
minimum 6 slides per artist; 5 or more requires a minimum of 3 slides each. If you would like your
visual material returned by mail, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your
proposal.

Deadline for exhibition submissions:
11 April, 30 May, 22 August, 17 October 2008.
However, the Committee will consider applications between deadline dates, particularly for
unfilled spaces within the program.
Application Approval Process
• Proposals are reviewed by the Kudos Gallery Management Committee. Their decision will be
final and no correspondence will be entered into unless deemed appropriate by the Committee.
• If your proposal is unclear or incomplete, you may be contacted to provide further information
or clarification.
• The Kudos Management Committee will meet no later than 2 weeks after each deadline date.
What then?
• You will be contacted by post or email with the results of your application as soon as
possible after the exhibition proposal meeting.
• If you have enclosed a self-addressed stamped envelope your support material will be returned
to you.
• If your application is accepted you will be required to sign the enclosed Kudos Gallery
Contract stating that you have read, understood and agreed with all the Conditions of Use and Bond
Requirements. The other copy must be held for your records.
Confirming the Exhibition
• It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to ensure that the Gallery / Artist(s) contract is
signed and returned by the set deadline. All fees are also to be paid by this deadline. If
fees are not paid and the contract is not received before the set deadline, the exhibition timeslot
will be forfeited.
Equipment Requirements
Kudos Gallery has limited equipment available for hire or loan.
This equipment includes:
2 x Video Projectors
1 x Television
6 x Plinths of various sizes
Standard gallery tools for hanging
Any equipment required for an exhibition that is outside the Arc and Kudos Gallery resources will be the responsibility of the exhibitor(s)
