Deep Sleep still form video installation 2004

FANTASMI surveys Dennis Del Favero's work of the last decade. Del Favero's practice meditates on trauma, memory and loss of drawing upon and responding to the reportage that saturates television and print media. He responds by presenting actual and sometimes imagined events in psychologically compelling settings, questioning conventional understandings of trauma and focusing on its centrality to the experience of the contemporary world.

The exhibition premieres the new Deep Sleep video installation about the infamous Chelmsford Hospital in 1970s Sydney and its experimental deep sleep therapy which saw unprecedented death and injury in the quest to eliminate the pain of memory.
