The blank page offers up infinite possibilities when, holding a pencil above paper, one is poised to make a mark. Always anxious about drawing with no clearly defined explanation for doing so, my artistic practice has seen me clutch for reasons to place a mark, justifications to draw. In an attempt to tackle the infinite nature of the blank page, I have come to rely on a series of formulas, rationales, systems, models and prescriptions so as to overcome the blinding possibilities of this space. My navigation of the blank page by way of mark making has been driven by an urge to provide evidence of being somewhere and knowing something fully. Marks made on the blank page attempt to signify a record of knowing that space, they are markers of having been there, mappings, and hence a staking of claim.
