| When: | Oct 19, 2006 - Nov 2, 2006 |
| Artist(s): | Stephen Copland |
In 1999 Copland exhibited
Julia’s Diary: an Immigrants Story at Imprimerie
Catholique in Beirut, Lebanon as part of a UNESCO Cultural event. In 2004 the artist was invited to
conduct a series of lectures and exhibit
Flag at St Esprit Universite, Kaslik- a series of works
created after his initial visit. Tourists from around the world visited Lebanon to see the restored
Museums, central area and wonderful ancient sites. A sense of optimism was in the air and 'Welcome'
was a common word used.
The
Flag is an image which contains the possibility of
covering the country and the layers of its history. Copland attempted to create images of hope……
However, recent events now make the images full of sadness.
