The course covers the essentials of B&W analogue printing in the darkroom, as well as ideas on
using the camera to maximum effect.
You will learn how to print and process in black and white, analyse your negatives and select
the best image for printing. You will also become proficient in handling a 35mm film Single Lens
Reflex camera and develop an understanding for creating images exploring the basic rules of
composition. An overview of the history of photography will also be covered through to the
digital medium.
Access to a 35mm SLR camera is ideal but not essential.
Friday January 23. The course concludes with a 1 hour
exhibition from 12-1pm of the students’ work, followed at 1pm with a short ceremony at which the
Dean, Professor Ian Howard, awards certificates to students.
