Brief Course Description
Material Modelling explores basic crafting and construction techniques used in architectural model making.

Course Overview
The Material Modelling workshop introduces students to a range of basic materials and techniques which includes:
•    construction and crafting skills
•    additive and subtractive modelling methods
•    material research and experimentation
•    safe practices in handling cutting tools

Course Objectives
•    Learn to use models as an evolutionary material object
•    Visualise three dimensional ideas through physical model making
•    Introduce and encourage the use of a variety of different materials
•    Develop a playful attitude towards model making through colour and material selection
•    Develop an individual approach to model making based on self expression and integrity
•    Learn and practice professional and safe model making techniques

Tutor Information:

Mimi Tong has been recognised in both Australia and internationally through several artist residencies, four solo or two-person exhibitions and many group exhibiitions. she has been a casual tutor at Sydney college of the Arts, and is currently teaching in both the COFA's drawing/painting program and the architcture program of the Faculty of the Built Environment, UNSW.

MATERIALS LIST for Material Modelling
Course fees include some basic materials.
SUPPLIED BY COFA:
Shared class materials
PVA glue, masking tape, dress making pins, steel rulers, small pliers, cutting mats, cutting blades, scalpels, paper, pencils

STUDENTS TO SUPPLY.
Two tone card, boxboard, balsa wood - details to be supplied.
Estimated materials cost (not including shared class materials)
$30 per head
