Explore traditional and experimental methods of designing and printing with letterpress.
Letterpress is a traditional form of print-design manufacture that transfers the inked
surface of raised wood and metal letters to paper on a hand press. Students will explore the
contemporary applications of this method, and the allure of the handmade in current graphic design
practices. Students are invited to experiment with the use of letterforms to create typographic
imagery, and the capacity through letterpress to print letterforms on non-conventional materials,
in the aid of printing their own booklet of letterpress designs.
