Bachelor of Art Education

Course Code: 4801

Information for Domestic Students enrolling in the Bachelor of Art Education (421300) or the Design (Hons)/Art Education (421310) from 2014

As part of UNSW’s and COFA’s commitment to high-quality art and design education, we are moving to further improve our art and design education degrees next year.

From 2014, UNSW will offer three new degrees in Fine Art/Education, Design/Education and Media Arts/Education.

These high-quality degrees build upon COFA’s proud history of educating the best Art and Design teachers in Australia and will not involve a longer period of study or any additional fees.

The new dual-award degrees allow students to continue to study specialized Art and Design courses at COFA’s newly refurbished Paddington campus.

The 2-3 year practice-based studio component of the new degrees is complemented by a suite of specialist Education courses that will ensure an intellectually rigorous and fully-accredited degree for teachers of Art and Design.

Students enrolling in the Bachelor of Art Education in 2014 will complete a Bachelor Fine Arts and a Bachelor Education (Secondary), enabling them to complete two degrees, one specialising in fine arts practice and one specialising in secondary education. These two degrees can still be completed in 4 years full-time study and remain fully accredited.

From 2014 students enrolling in the Bachelor of Design (Hons) / Bachelor of Art Education will undertake a Bachelor Design (Hons) and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary), enabling them to complete two degrees, one specialising in design and one specialising in secondary education. These two degrees can still be completed in only 5 years full-time and remain fully accredited.

Alternatively, students will have the option to complete a Bachelor of Media Arts (Hons) and Bachelor of Education (Secondary), which is usually 5 years full-time study.

Students do not need to change their preferences to be able to undertake these new degrees, but will be automatically transferred when the changes are complete.

If you have any questions about these changes please contact the COFA Student Centre at cofa@unsw.edu.au or Tel: (02) 8936 0684 or the School of Education at education@unsw.edu.au or Tel: (02) 8936 1977.
