Peer Assisted Studio Supervision (PASS) is a system in
which senior students make themselves available for mentoring and support in Art, Design and Media
studios and also in Art History and Art Education courses over a regular number of hours per week.
This has been shown to assist undergraduate students, who often work better with peers.
It also provides valuable experience and income to those senior students who are providing
assistance.
PASS leaders are mainly postgraduate students who have excellent interpersonal and
communication skills and an enthusiastic commitment to supporting undergraduate students. PASS
leaders aren’t required to ‘teach’ the content of a course or provide counseling service, but to
provide support, advice and general feedback to undergraduate students. Leaders also consult with
the teaching staff.
