The unique contribution of the creative process to human society can be viewed throughout history.
Creativity underscores who we are and what we value as people. At the College of Fine Arts every
course has been structured to deliver insights into the importance of individual and collective
creativity, whether in theoretical assessment, design practice, curatorial evaluations or artistic
considerations.
COFA at UNSW strives to ensure that each student maximizes this insight and challenges him or
herself to reach their highest potential as an artist, designer or theorist.
At COFA, academic members of staff represent Australia’s most eminent artists, designers and
theorists. They have won national and international awards and critical acclaim for their
contributions to the fields of fine art, interactive and web based medias, design and art theory as
well as winning a record number of large research grants through the University of New South Wales,
supported by the Federal government.
A strong academic and research foundation positions, COFA as a serious and rigorous venue for
all students, and particularly postgraduates who benefit from the theoretical issues and research
projects underway at COFA.
Collaborations between COFA and international institutes such as
The Glasgow School of Art in Scotland,
The Central Academy of Fine Arts in China and
ZKM in Germany, through COFA’s
research institutes facilitate knowledge, experience and expertise for both students and
staff.
COFA’s support of innovation and opportunity is an important element to its teaching and
research success. The College offers a wide array of disciplines of study, including traditional
studio based practices and new media areas and provides an active conference seminar program
throughout the year. Through COFA's many international connections, the College has built a network
of vital relationships that underpin exchanges of ideas and people.
We invite you to consider joining in the creative process and taking up a degree at COFA.
