Qualifications
Dip. T (Brisbane CAE), BFA (Calgary), MA (Nova Scotia), PhD (James Cook)Vaughan Rees is the Associate Dean - International for the Faculty of the College of Fine Arts and, a Senior Lecturer in the School of Design Studies. He has been a full-time academic with the university since 1990 and before this time taught at the St George Institute, Sydney College of Advanced Education and in secondary schools in Queensland.
Vaughan's studio practice is centred around the activity of drawing in which he has exhibited in Australia, Canada and the United States of America. His books, Artifacts 1 and 2 (the first being co-authored with Rhana Devenport) have been popular art and design texts in secondary school nationally and internationally. In recent years he has curated several national design exhibitions in Singapore and delivered lectures on the psychological and sociological dimensions of design to institutions across South East Asia.
Vaughan coordinates COFA's highly successful design internship program (with Executive Assistant, Ms Patricia Taylor ) which has over 700 companies in 22 countries. This internship program has been nationally recognized and awarded a Carrick Citation for Excellence. In 2009, Vaughan was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Staff Award for Community Engagement.
He is currently supervising research candidates in Masters and Doctoral programs in design and fine arts and is regularly invited to examine postgraduate research outcomes across Australia.
